Quicksilver by Callie Hart

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5/5

Synopsis:

Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen’s reservoirs for as long as she can remember.

When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares…but it turns out they’re real, and Saeris has landed herself right in the middle of a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed.

The first of her kind to tread the frozen mountains of Yvelia in over a thousand years, Saeris mistakenly binds herself to Kingfisher, a handsome Fae warrior, who has secrets and nefarious agendas of his own. He will use her Alchemist’s magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him… or her.

Review no spoilers:

WOW!

This book was so addicting. I first heard about it on TikTok and saw EVERYONE everyone was so obsessed with it that I HAD TO read it, and OMG, was it good!! I couldn't put it down at any point in the story; I had to force myself to read it slowly so I could enjoy it for a little longer.

Quicksilver is such a beautiful read. The scenery, even though it's out of this world, is very easy to imagine and understand. The characters are complex, but they are also easy to tell apart and see their own development as individuals. I enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers situation that happened here. It took a while for the characters to get into it (hehe), but the tension and buildup to those moments was chef's kiss.

The spicy scenes were not only about s*x; they had meaning, they added to the story, and they helped the characters develop individually and as a duo too. I truly enjoyed their conversations and how they bounced off each other's energies and sass.

The ending was very good—no insane cliffhangers, which I appreciate a lot! It ended in a good way; the story got somewhat of a closure, and even though we know more is coming in the next book, it is also heartwarming to see some of the main issues come to an end.

 SPOILERS STARTING HERE

I'm now going to talk about the characters!

Saeris: Girl boss, traumatized queen; I love her and all her chaos. She has had such a rough upbringing, and since the very beginning, we can see how selfless she is and how much she is willing to sacrifice for those who she loves, which shows through her love for Kingfisher and how much she was willing to risk for his safety and sanity. It broke my heart when she told Kingfisher that Madra had the 14 y/o girls spayed and took the opportunity of them being mothers one day. Fisher's reaction later on was HEARTBREAKING. I hope that now that she is no longer human and her body has transformed, maybe her reproductive organs have changed too. Idk, I want them to have a happy family.

I love that now that she is in power, she is Queen!!!

KingFisher:  WOW, what an amazing character; he was more than what I expected. He is so powerful, caring, and passionate. He is like a wounded dog that wants to keep protecting his family. I kept finding myself empathizing with his pain; even though he was annoying at the very beginning, I was always hoping this would get better for him. He was giving a lot of predatory vibes, and it reminded me of this quote.

"I'm the world's most dangerous predator. Everything about me invites you in: my voice, my face, even my smell." Edward Cullen

I love how everything about him was addicting to Saeris; it shows from the very beginning how they were meant to be together. The way he adores her, "Little Osha," OH MY GOD, is such wonderful praise. It truly melts my heart to see him fall for her, reading about how he was changing and the way love opened a world of possibilities for him. I can't wait to see how much his character develops!!

Carrion: PLOT TWIST!! What the heck? He was fae royalty all along!!!! WHY didn't HE HELP MORE. ughhh

Ren: I love Ren. What a beautiful character! He was the bridge all along; he unified Fisher and Saeris. He is so humble, caring, and sweet. I just want to give you a hug and say thank you.

Everlayne: She is amazing! I love how she brings out a side of King Fisher that we aren't usually able to see. I was so heartbroken when Malcom took her and shared his plans to make her a slave. Also, WTF, Belkion is the worst! He is disgusting and never saw her as his daughter, just as a pawn in his game. I really hope she is okay.

Lorreth: Sweet Lorreth is an amazing character; he is so kind and sweet, and I can tell that Kingfisher has been able to see that since the day he met him. I was so excited when the Quick Silver chose him; he deserved it more than everyone. Angels breath power is insane.  I truly want the best for him, and he also gives cool uncle vibes!

Dayna: What the heck, she's so annoying. Honestly, I just wanted her to die because ughhhh, ugh, but she did help save Kingfisher when her sword was destroyed, and it was essential for the ending of the book.
