Synopsis:
“I don’t need another kink.”
That thought pops into my head whenever I pull up my favorite social media app, but alas, every time I scroll, I learn something new about myself, and another one is born. And yes, I know I’m responsible for what the algorithm shows me, but I’m trying to ignore that fact.
Lately, my feed has been dominated by masked men. I’ve favorited videos with them dressed in full cosplay, decked out in futuristic military apparel, and wrapped up like ghouls.
But more than anything else, my FYP is filled with shirtless men wearing ghost masks. Bonus points if they’re heavily tattooed, wielding a knife, or covered in fake blood. At night, I dream about being chased by them, of them catching me and doing deliciously dark things to my more than willing body.
I never could have guessed that by sending one drunken text, those dreams would become my new reality.
Lights Out is a fast-paced dark romance with a morally grey male lead. Some themes and scenes may be disturbing to readers. Please check the TWs at the beginning of the book.
Review no spoilers:
This story was one I was not expecting at all.
I had just joined a book discord server and I wanted to join the community in a buddy read and for the month of September - October some of them were reading lights out and after finishing the The Shepperd king duology I decided to join them and boy was it a wild ride (pun intended)
This book has it all: spice, true crime, a lil investigation, mob, trauma bonding and romance. It was dark and spicy but in the right amount, it was consensual and both of them trusted the other deeply.
I have never read a book as spicy as this and all I got to say now is that a Masked MMC is 10/10.
SPOILERS STARTING HERE
The overall story is GOOD, its fast, dark and spicy. in the first 7 chapters you are already into spice and chaos, no slow burns at all!
Aly:
I was so amazed by how Aly (FMC) was so addicted to the faceless man, how her perversion was growing with every page and that there was inner turmoil in her head and Cl*t hahah, she didn’t know what she wanted to do because it all seemed so dangerous but her obsession for him overrode any ideas of logic and kept playing his dark game instead of calling the cops.
Even though the aim at first was to fulfill their lust I enjoyed how they just fell for each other, they did a lot of trauma bonding and they were able to work their our past trauma with the help of the other. Yeah, its a spicy book but there was a lot of character development that I enjoyed.
Aly accepted herself and the loss of her mom through never ending shifts of saving people in the E.R but also working so much didn’t allow her to have time to think, just a never ending saving machine. When she accepted her own darkness she finally felt a freedom she didn’t knew it was possible to feel.
Josh:
What a wild life this poor man has gone through, the high levels of trauma he has and his only escape outlet to be himself is to do a thirst trap account hahaha, that was a bit of a crazy idea but I guess people are weird.
I loved this character so much, I love how she pushed her over the edge, how protective and how stalk-ish he is since he feels the need to know everyone is okay for his own peace of mind.
The darkness of this character was deep, he did aly dirty with all the teasing and pushing her to the limit but they were both into it so I guess its good.
The fact that his father was a prolific infamous serial killer made it all way creepier, we just had to trust him he wasn’t there for the wrong reasons, but I guess the kink of pain is genetic ahaha. He did in fact change the story, instead of murdering them, he gave them pleasure, he gave his body away to his fans to enjoy instead of ending their lives.
I don’t want to go into too much detail about the spice scenes but WOW, every scene had me gasping, they did things I had never thought of before and I enjoyed discovering this new world of prey and predator, very cool and dark but still loving.
Brad:
I love what happened to this awful person, I love that Josh was able to do what he couldn’t do with his father. He deserved everything he got and to go out of this world in a meaningless way. No one was there to protect him, no money was enough to save him.
It was a cool way to end this character, a rich asshole that kills and rapes women and also his parents that only care about appearances and covered everything all up. At the end everyone got what they deserved.
truth always comes out.

“I didn’t want him morally grey. I wanted someone with a soul as black as night. Someone who would burn the world down for me and not lose a single minute of sleep over it.”
“I thought we could spend some quality time together as a family. You, me. Our maladjusted son who just scooted his butt across the carpet behind you.”
“He made me feel alive. He'd dragged me out of the gray world I'd been living in and taught me how to see colors again. In a sea of men who barely put in any effort, this man stood out for going above and beyond. He was the definition of "If he wanted to, he would." Because he'd done for me what no one else ever had: he not only met but exceeded my needs, both physically and emotionally. He kept me on my toes, never knowing what he would do next. And he did it all while making me blush and laugh, often at the same time.”
“I have no regrets about publicly claiming you.”
“Taking care of her felt good. It was clear to me from what I’d seen that someone needed to, and I’d be damned if I let another man do it.”
